To registrants for CECE2012 in Zurich
As the president of the European Society for Comparative Endocrinology, it is a great pleasure for me to see so many young participants registered for the conference in Zurich next month. The organizer Dr. Elisabeth Eppler has put together a very exciting program with many splendid speakers, starting with last year's Nobel laureate Jules A. Hoffmann.
As you know, there will also be a workshop in bioinformatics and functional genomics right before the conference, Monday and Tuesday (http://www.cece2012.org/?page=13). The workshop is organized by Prof. Ralph Schlapbach who is the director for the Functional Genomics Center in Zurich, Dr. Elisabeth Eppler who is the organizer of the CECE, and myself and two collages from my lab who have many years experience of bioinformatics in comparative endocrinology.
I wish to encourage you to take this opportunity to obtain hands-on experience and advice how to retrieve information from the genome databases and use this to obtain useful information. The workshop will also be an excellent opportunity to connect with other young scientists and PhD students in comparative endocrinology.
You can download an updated flyer with all the information about the workshop here.
Elisabeth Eppler has kindly reduced the fee for participation in the workshop to only CHF 190. The fee includes documentary material as well as a meal for the Sunday evening get-together and lunches and coffee breaks for Monday-Tuesday.
Looking forward to seeing you at the CECE in Zurich - and hopefully also at the workshop!
Best regards,
Dan Larhammar
President of the ESCE
