President's letter to the members of the European Society for Comparative Endocrinology - March 2014

Dan LarhammarDear Members of the ESCE,

The next CECE will take place in Rennes August 25-29 2014.
To register, go to the conference web site: http://cece2014.org.
The deadline for registration at reduced fee is May 1st.
The organizers will greatly appreciate if you register sooner rather than later because this will make planning easier for them - so why wait?

Olivier Kah has composed a terrific program with 18 symposia covering a wide range of topics and splendid plenary lecturers:

    - Bon-chu Chung (Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan): Function and regulation of steroids in vertebrates
    - Silvia Zanuy (CSIC, Spain): 40 years of research in sea bass reproductive physiology
    - Dick Nässel (Stockholm, Sweden): Insect insulins
    - Luis Renato de Franca (Belo Horizonte, Brazil): Spermatogonial stem cell physiology and niche in vertebrates
    - Charles Tyler (Exeter, UK): Endocrine disruptors in aquatic species

Conference building on the Campus de Beaulieu, University of Rennes 1.

A new event at this year's CECE is a special young investigator symposium with presentations by junior colleagues. In conjunction with this, it is a great pleasure to announce that postdocs will have a greatly reduced registration fee and students will pay no registration fee at all! (Within the limit of 100 students on the basis of “First come, first served".) This is possible thanks to Olivier's ardent and very successful fund-raising. Furthermore, accommodation is very affordable in Rennes, so please encourage all young coworkers and colleagues to take this opportunity to enjoy the company and cognitive contributions of the comparative community.

In addition there will be four attractive options for excursions, including the world famous Mont Saint-Michel (picture), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Many thanks to all of you who have already renewed your ESCE membership. For those of you who have yet to do so, please note that you can conveniently do it concomitantly with registration. If you are unable to participate in the CECE, please check the ESCE website or contact secretary/treasurer Elisabeth Eppler directly (elisabeth.eppler@uzh.ch) to renew. The fee is only 45€/2 yr for senior scientists and 28€/2 yr for junior scientists and students. Membership ascertains that you will receive information about coming conferences. Furthermore, the membership fees contribute to travel grants for PhD students and young scientists in future CECEs. A small part constitutes contribution to IFCES, the International Federation of Comparative Endocrinology Societies.
Please forward this letter to any not-yet-members of the ESCE whom you think would or should be interested in participating in our conference.

Best regards,

Dan Larhammar, President of the ESCE
